Seat Heartbeat Signal
Â
An instance with an active floating license seat will send periodic heartbeat signals to the licensing server. This allows the licensing server to keep the seat active. A number of attempts will be made at each interval.
If an instance’s heartbeat signal is not received at the licensing server within a predetermined amount of time, the licensing server will assume that the instance has failed and/or lost communication with the licensing server and will automatically free the seat for use by other instances. If the instance is still running when this occurs, licensed features will become unavailable.
This process is tolerant of intermittent network issues. For example, a typical configuration requires a heartbeat signal every 24 hours. The product will attempt to send a heartbeat on a much shorter interval and will make several attempts at each interval.
